It
wasn't very long ago you stroked my little
head.
And wished for me upon a star, then tucked
me in my bed.
Stories that you were to tell, they never
did get old.
When you were just a little girl, those
stories too were told.
It
wasn't very long ago, at home, in school,
at play,
Through each defeat and victory, you praised
me anyway.
My mother, teacher, friend you were, in
best and darkest hour.
You saw in me what I could not; you were
my rock and power.
And
when I dreamed outlandish dreams, you told
me they could be
Dismissed the doubts that visited, saw more
than I could see.
The time it came to leave the nest, it was
my time to fly.
I wished that I could be like you, an eagle
flying high.
It
wasn't very long ago, and still it's true
today,
Your love and strength inspired me; it's
time for me to say.
On Mother's Day and every day I want for
you to know.
You hold a place within my heart, I'll always
love you so.
